Schools get personal finance working group, training
The Department of Education starts a stakeholder working group in January 2026 to expand access to personal finance classes. Members include a Finance Authority of Maine rep, a Maine Jump$tart rep, at least three Maine teachers, and a Maine Education Association rep. The group sends recommendations to the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee by March 1, 2026. Based on findings, the Department organizes a summer training for teachers who teach or want to teach personal finance. Funding is one-time: $30,000 in FY 2025-26—$15,000 for the group and $15,000 for training; none for 2026-27.
