Military records sharing for suicide prevention

The Bureau of Veterans' Services can share a deceased person’s military service information with the Chief Medical Examiner for suicide reporting and prevention. An authorized Chief Medical Examiner representative must request it while doing official duties. The bureau must get permission from the person’s next of kin before sharing. If there is no next of kin, the bureau may share without permission. Only military service details are shared, and only for suicide reporting and prevention.
