State sets energy storage goals

The law sets statewide goals for energy storage. Maine aims for at least 300 megawatts (MW) of installed storage by December 31, 2025, and at least 400 MW by December 31, 2030. The goals apply to energy storage systems located in the state, as defined in law. When the state updates its energy plan every two years, the Governor’s Energy Office may raise these goals and must report any increase to the Legislature. The law does not create new funding, fees, or direct payments for households.
