More licenses for assisted living and residential care
Maine's Department of Health and Human Services can issue more than one license at the same level for the same site for assisted living and residential care facilities. A facility operator qualifies if it already held more than one such license at that site on October 1, 2023. Or if it got local approvals and financing before March 1, 2023 and started construction before October 1, 2023. The department only allows this if there were no confirmed quality-of-care or resident-rights violations before October 1, 2023. Beginning June 15, 2025, this rule is in effect.
