State toxin testing for scallop growers
The Department of Marine Resources runs a pilot to test cultured scallops and scallop roe for biotoxins. Tests follow the state shellfish toxins program and use high‑performance liquid chromatography. The department also helps with logistics, including moving samples from a facility in the grower’s town to the testing site. The pilot runs through December 31, 2027. The law provides $50,000 in FY 2025–26 and $50,000 in FY 2026–27 to fund this work. The money supports the program, not direct payments to businesses.
Limited-purpose sites excluded from testing
The pilot cannot test scallops or roe grown on limited‑purpose aquaculture license sites. If you farm on a limited‑purpose site, you cannot use the pilot’s testing or transport help. This limit applies until the pilot ends on December 31, 2027.
