Bill Overview
Analyzed Economic Effects
5 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 2 costs, 1 mixed.
Ethics board violations trigger state discipline
If the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer finds you broke its standards or code, Maine treats that as unethical conduct. The same rule applies to similar findings by the National Athletic Trainers' Association or a department‑approved successor group. This raises the chance of state discipline based on outside ethics findings.
Stricter license and renewal rules for trainers
To get a Maine athletic trainer license, you must show trustworthiness and competence. You must graduate from a department‑approved college and complete an approved athletic training program. You must pass the Board of Certification exam and hold a current credential from that board. To renew, you must keep and submit current Board of Certification (BOC) certification. This certification now counts as your continuing education.
Clear rules for athletic training students
Maine now uses the term "athletic training student." It covers people finishing licensure requirements or in a supervised course of study in an accredited or approved program. Your title must show you are a student or trainee.
Longer visits allowed for out-of-state trainers
An out-of-state athletic trainer working for an out-of-state team can provide services in Maine for up to 14 days per visit. The yearly cap stays at 30 days. This gives visiting trainers longer single trips while keeping the annual limit.
One licensing section removed from law
The law repeals section 14360 of the athletic trainer licensing chapter. The rules in that section no longer apply. The law does not include a replacement in this change.
