Signature threshold to seek town deorganization

To start deorganization, voters must file a written petition. It needs signatures from at least 50% of the number of votes cast in the last governor’s race, or at least 10 people, whichever is higher. The petition must ask for a town or city meeting to discuss deorganization. Once filed, municipal officers must call and hold a special meeting to discuss deorganization and decide whether to draft a deorganization plan. The petition follows the state’s standard local petition process.
