2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.
Choose REAL ID or traditional Maine ID
You can choose a Maine driver's license or ID that meets federal REAL ID rules, or a traditional non-REAL ID card. The Secretary of State offers both choices when you apply. The non-REAL ID license or ID stays valid for all Maine state identification needs, including driving.
No duplicate REAL ID licenses
You cannot hold a REAL ID Maine driver's license and another Maine license with the same class or the same restrictions at the same time. This stops people from keeping two active licenses of the same type.
