New child mental health teams in Lewiston and Bangor
By December 31, 2025, the Department of Health and Human Services must ask for applications to fund two pilot child treatment teams in Lewiston and Bangor. Grants are competitive. Awardees must use incentives to hire, train, and keep staff. One group can win both grants. Contracts can last up to two years. Families in those areas get more local, intensive community mental health care for children.
One-time funding for child treatment pilots
The law provides one-time money in 2025-26 and 2026-27 to launch and pay for the pilot teams. Provider payment funds: General Fund $24,446 (2025-26) and $205,433 (2026-27); Federal $37,830 (2025-26) and $310,642 (2026-27); Federal Block Grant $1,488 (2025-26) and $12,260 (2026-27). Grant funds to build teams: General Fund $160,000 in 2025-26 and $160,000 in 2026-27. Across all funds, DHHS totals $223,764 in 2025-26 and $688,335 in 2026-27. These are one-time amounts to launch and support the two pilot teams.
