Higher pay and even payments for Maine legislators

Beginning the first Wednesday of December 2024, each Maine legislator earns $25,000 in the first year and $20,000 in the second year of each two-year session. If you receive Social Security retirement and file a written request with the Executive Director of the Legislative Council within one week after the biennium starts, you get $22,500 each year instead. Starting January 1, 2026, you may choose to be paid in roughly equal amounts across each year. You must make that choice before each regular session, and it changes timing only, not total pay.
