One-year lobbying ban after state service

Beginning January 1, 2026, former officers and employees of Maine’s executive or legislative branch cannot do paid lobbying for one year after they leave their job. The rule applies only to compensated lobbying. The law defines who counts as a former employee. It includes executive branch workers in the unclassified or classified service, jobs with salaries set by the Governor, and major policy‑influencing positions. It also includes legislative partisan and nonpartisan staff, committee clerks, and staff of the Secretary of the Senate and the Clerk of the House.
