PFAS well testing for abutting homeowners

If you own property that abuts a solid waste landfill and use a private well for drinking, you can request one PFAS test. You must send a written request to the Department. "Abutting" includes properties next to or across a right‑of‑way and within one mile of the landfill. The Department requires the landfill to sample and analyze your well using its approved monitoring plan. If results suggest the landfill may be the source, the Department orders more tests. The lab sends written results to you, the landfill, and the Department.

PFAS testing and tracking for landfill leachate

Landfills that collect and manage leachate must add PFAS testing to their water monitoring plans. They must send PFAS results to the Department and include them in annual reports. Each year, the Department posts these results on its public website. Licensed wastewater dischargers must also keep records and file yearly reports on landfill leachate they receive, including the source, volume, and final disposition. These steps give regulators and communities better data on PFAS in leachate and nearby waters.
