Police must adopt evidence and privacy policies

Maine law enforcement agencies must keep written policies on key evidence and privacy duties. Agencies must have a policy for unannounced search warrants. Starting January 1, 2024, policies must protect attorney‑client communications and spell out breach steps. Starting January 1, 2026, agencies must help prosecutors meet Brady and Giglio disclosure duties. Also starting January 1, 2026, agencies must make required disclosures to the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
