Legislature can extend session with majority

Maine’s first regular session ends by the third Wednesday in June. The second regular session ends by the third Wednesday in April. In an emergency, lawmakers can extend either session by up to five legislative days with a majority of each House present and voting. In a further emergency, they can add up to five more days with the same majority vote. They may add one extra legislative day to consider the Governor’s objections to bills.
