Public website for Maine missing persons
The law requires the Maine State Police to run a public website for all open missing-person cases in Maine. It must be live by December 31, 2026 and updated at least monthly. Each listing shows a photo, basic details, how the person disappeared, and the last known location. The bureau also convenes a working group to review best practices, study officer training, and improve the Silver Alert Program. The group includes law enforcement, the medical examiner, search-and-rescue, a family member, and representatives from each federally recognized tribe, and reports by December 3, 2025. The state provides a one-time $6,368 in FY 2025-26 ($4,139 General Fund and $2,229 Highway Fund) to build the website; no money is provided for 2026-27.
