Bigger historic rehab credit in rural Maine
Starting with tax years beginning January 1, 2025, you can claim a 35% Maine credit on certified rehab costs for a certified historic structure in a rural area. Rural means an unorganized territory or a town with fewer than 12,500 people based on the latest U.S. Census. At least 33% of the building’s square feet must be apartments, dwellings, or other living spaces. If the project is a certified affordable housing project, the credit is 45%. Eligible costs are the same expenses you claim under federal Section 47.
