More local uses for tax increment funds

Beginning June 15, 2025, towns and plantations can spend tax increment financing money on more local facilities. They can use up to 25% of a development district’s captured assessed value for building, renovating, or running public safety buildings, including emergency shelters (up from 15%). They can also pay up to 50% of capital costs to build or renovate central administrative offices they own and use, subject to the same 25% district cap. Each project must be tied to general economic development in the community.
