Higher fines for promoting prostitution

The law treats knowingly promoting prostitution as a serious crime. Courts must fine an individual $10,000 and an organization $20,000 for a conviction. If the offender has two or more prior convictions for similar crimes, it becomes a higher-class crime. In those repeat cases, the court must fine an individual $25,000 and an organization $50,000. Prior convictions can be for this offense or for similar crimes in Maine or another state.

Review of training for mandated reporters

The Department of Health and Human Services must form a working group to review the training that mandated reporters complete at least every four years. The group must include child advocacy centers, agencies with expertise in sexually exploited children, and a statewide coalition of sexual assault centers. The department must report findings and recommendations to the Legislature by February 15, 2027.
