Home sellers can clear tax liens
The law lets a home seller named on a property tax lien clear their name after the sale. You must show proof you paid your own prorated share of the taxes. The municipal treasurer must prepare and record a discharge, like a mortgage discharge. A facsimile signature is allowed. The discharge is only for the seller and must say you did not owe taxes on the released property. You pay the recording cost.
