The Maine DEP sets up a statewide take-back program for firefighting foam with PFAS added. It must be operating by July 1, 2027. People and organizations in Maine can ask for pickup of foam located in the state. The program stores and disposes of the foam safely. DEP can hire contractors, set routine rules, and accept grants or donations. The law creates a special account and puts $500 in FY 2025-26 and $500 in FY 2026-27 to fund contracted services. Service depends on available funds.
