School construction bonds can run 30 years

Beginning June 9, 2025, Maine lets certain school construction bonds last up to 30 years. The 30-year cap covers the total time for both the long-term bond and any temporary notes it replaces (up from 25 years). This applies only when bond money is used, even in part, to pay temporary notes or renewals. School districts can spread payments over more years, which can lower yearly debt costs. Repayment also lasts longer, pushing some costs into later years for taxpayers.
