Share or delay moose permits within family
You can transfer a valid moose permit to a qualifying family member in exceptional hardship cases. If the permit holder dies before a harvest, the permit transfers to an eligible family member. Both the giver and receiver lose any accumulated lottery points and must sit out 3 years. The commissioner may let you defer a permit to the next season if someone in your household also has a permit that season. If you use a deferred permit, you cannot be selected for another permit in that calendar year. The department will set rules, and a transfer fee may apply.
Hunt and fish license-free on your farm
Residents and their immediate family can hunt and fish on their own land without a license. The land must be one plot of 10 or more contiguous acres, used only for farming, that you legally possess and live on. Your hunting or fishing license cannot be suspended or revoked. Fishing without a license applies to open inland waters from that land. The law also sets the 10‑acre minimum in statute and removes an older subsection to match these rules. You must still follow all other hunting and fishing laws.
