Broader Maine tax break for military retirees
The law updates Maine’s definition of military retirement pay for tax purposes. It confirms that retirement pay from the active or reserve Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Space Force counts. Beginning January 1, 2026, Maine uses the federal “uniformed services” definition to decide which retirement pay qualifies. If your retirement pay fits this definition, Maine treats it under its military retirement tax rules, which can lower your state income tax.
