Health checks and reporting in prison segregation

When someone is kept in segregation for more than 24 hours, medical staff must visit right away and then at least daily. If no medical staff are on site, a trained staff member may visit and must call the on‑call doctor or medical staff when needed. The facility chief must consider medical advice on diet and conditions to protect health. If that advice is not followed, the chief must immediately report the reasons to the Commissioner. If segregation lasts more than 5 days, the chief must send the Commissioner a report explaining why.
