Maine regulators study power buying
The law directs the Maine Public Utilities Commission to study how it buys standard-offer (default) electricity supply. It looks at using contracts of different lengths and holding bid rounds more than once a year. The goal is better bids, lower customer rates, and steadier bills. By January 2, 2026, the PUC must report to the Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee. The report must say whether the PUC changed its buying strategy starting January 1, 2026, or explain why not. The committee may propose a follow-up bill. This study does not change customer rates today.
