Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 2 mixed.

Posting and penalties for chiropractic x-ray staff

You must post the radiographer certificate where x-rays are made so patients can see it. Anyone who violates these rules, including a licensed chiropractor who allows a violation, faces disciplinary sanctions under section 503‑B(4). The licensing board adopts rules to run the program, including continuing education standards for renewal.

Get and keep chiropractic x-ray certification

To get certified, you must hold the license under section 556, finish at least 50 hours of board‑approved radiologic training, and pass the board’s exam. You may pay a fee up to $100. If you have an active American Chiropractic Registry of Radiologic Technologists registration, that covers the course and exam. Certificates expire at the end of the calendar year. To renew, file the board’s form, complete board‑approved continuing education for the year, and pay up to $100. If your certificate is expired less than 24 months, finish CE for each missed year and pay the fee. If it is expired more than 24 months, you must also pass the proficiency exam.

Only certified assistants may take chiropractic x-rays

Only a chiropractic assistant with a chiropractic radiographer certificate may make x-rays in a chiropractic office. Chiropractic radiography means using ionizing radiation for chiropractic diagnosis under a chiropractor’s supervision. If you are certified, you do not need a separate x-ray license under the other law. The title “chiropractic radiographer” is now defined in law. Assistants who make x-rays must be certified unless they are licensed under subchapter 3.
