Judges can use military orders for protection

Courts can consider an active military protective order when deciding protection‑from‑abuse or harassment cases. Judges may also weigh an active military order when deciding whether to grant a fast, temporary (ex parte) order to protect a plaintiff or a child.

Military protective orders honored in Maine

The law defines a “military protective order” as an order under federal law (10 U.S.C. §1567) issued by a commanding officer. Title 19‑A uses the same meaning. Maine courts now treat military protective orders as similar orders under state law, so they can be recognized and enforced here.
