Maine funds emergency homeless shelters

The law creates ongoing state funding to keep emergency homeless shelters open. The Maine State Housing Authority runs the Shelter Operating Subsidy. It provides $2.5 million in FY 2025-26 and $2.5 million in FY 2026-27 from the General Fund. This helps shelters cover daily costs so people in crisis have a safe place.
