Blasting notice now required at small or construction quarries

The law requires small and construction-site quarry operators to give blasting notice under state rules. It applies if the quarry is one acre or less. Count excavated area on adjacent parcels under the same owner or operator. It also applies when excavation or grading is done before a construction project. These notice rules apply even to quarries that are otherwise exempt, but only when blasting is planned. This adds paperwork and planning time for small quarry businesses.
