Wharves and piers qualify for working waterfront

Maine now treats certain wharves, piers, and parcels as working waterfront land for property tax valuation. The land must touch tidal waters to the head of tide or be in the intertidal zone. It must be used mainly to provide access to or support commercial fishing. A wharf or pier counts if used mainly for commercial fishing, like berthing, boat storage, or small fishing houses for gear maintenance and storage. A parcel still counts even if split by a road, way, railroad, or pipeline.
