New reporting rules for pharmacies
Pharmacies and other dispensers must report set data on each controlled drug they fill. Send it electronically, unless the department grants a waiver for another format. Required items can include NDC, quantity, dosage, fill date, prescription number, new or refill, patient name, ID, address, date of birth, prescriber ID, and the date issued. A department serial number may be required if a serial system is created. Exceptions apply under subsections 1-A and 1-B.
Telehealth prescribers covered; old section repealed
Telehealth prescribers who treat patients located in Maine are now counted as prescribers under the state’s monitoring law. They must follow Maine’s controlled‑substance monitoring rules. The law adds a telehealth definition aligned with Maine’s insurance code. It also repeals a prior PDMP statute section to update how rules are set. This strengthens oversight but extends compliance duties to remote prescribers.
