Aroostook drug court pretrial services funded

The law funds pretrial services for the new Aroostook County drug treatment court. The Office of Behavioral Health gets a one-time $561,283 in FY 2026-27 to pay a contractor. The State Controller transfers $561,283 to this account by June 30, 2027 to support this work. These services help people entering the court meet required pretrial conditions.

Legal staff and defense for Aroostook court

The law funds key legal roles for the new Aroostook County drug treatment court. It provides $140,500 in FY 2026-27 to add a limited-period Assistant District Attorney. It also provides $39,000 in FY 2026-27 for lawyers to represent court participants. This support helps the court start up and serve people in the program.

Shift $179,500 to General Fund surplus

The State Controller transfers $179,500 to the state’s General Fund surplus by June 30, 2027. The money comes from the Opioid Use Disorder Prevention and Treatment Fund. This raises general budget flexibility but lowers that special fund by the same amount. It does not send money directly to households.
