Pay and expenses for council members
Council members who are not paid by their employer or the group they represent can receive a per diem, up to the legislative per diem. They can also be repaid for meals at meetings, child care, and travel costs.
Stronger TANF council for jobs and college
The law strengthens Maine’s TANF Advisory Council. It advises the DHHS Commissioner on education, training, jobs, quality work, business ownership, and postsecondary programs for TANF families. The Commissioner appoints members, including at least two TANF recipients, employer and labor reps, a women’s interests rep, the WIOA one‑stop, and public and private colleges. Members can be removed if they miss two meetings in 12 months. The council creates a postsecondary education subcommittee (up to 15 members) with universities, community colleges, FAME, nonprofits, TANF students, business, and private colleges to make recommendations, including on Parents as Scholars.
