Impounded vehicle sale money to fund

Money from selling impounded, unclaimed, recovered-after-theft, or unidentifiable vehicles or parts goes into the Motor Vehicle Services Fund. Agencies must deposit these sale proceeds into that fund. This change does not add new fees for households.

Temporary plate fee rises to $2

Beginning January 1, 2026, a temporary registration plate costs $2 per plate. You pay $2 for each temporary plate you get. One dollar of each fee goes to the Motor Vehicle Services Fund to build and run the electronic temporary plate program.

Lenders must use electronic liens, pay $1

Lienholders must use the state’s electronic lien system to report lien releases and updates. Beginning January 1, 2026, lienholders pay $1 for each electronic lien transaction. The money goes to the Motor Vehicle Services Fund.
