Grants for student mental health services

The Education Department runs a new grant program for school units that hire licensed behavioral and mental health providers. Grants are one-time and based on student count: $3,000 (250 or fewer), $6,000 (251–500), or $9,000 (more than 500). Money can only pay for services not covered by MaineCare (Maine's Medicaid). Grants cannot replace school-employed behavioral health staff. The law provides $100,000 in FY 2025-26 and $100,000 in FY 2026-27 for these grants.
