Large Maine towns can remove unsafe poles
Municipal officers in Maine towns with more than 30,000 people can revoke utility pole locations in public streets. The cutoff was 40,000 before. They must give notice and hold a hearing, and find that public safety and public welfare require it. This applies only on local streets, not on state or state-aid highways, and not within an urban compact area. After revocation, officers may order the poles removed. The owner must remove them within a reasonable time. The town must offer another suitable location or allow joint use of other poles.
