Homeowners can seek disability parking variance

You can ask your local zoning board for a variance to build a place to store and park a vehicle for a person with a permanent disability. This applies only if you own and live in the home and you are responsible for transporting that person. The board can grant it only if the local zoning law gives the board this power. The vehicle must be noncommercial, weigh no more than 6,000 pounds, have a disability plate, and be owned by the person with the disability. The vehicle must be used only to transport that person. The person with the disability must prove the disability is permanent. You must file proposed building plans with your request. The structure’s width and length cannot be more than twice the vehicle’s width and length.
