The law bans bots that dodge online limits to grab tickets. Sellers cannot list the same ticket twice or list tickets they do not have. Sites cannot use misleading web addresses or claim venue or artist endorsement without written permission. The law defines what counts as a bot and a speculative ticket to support these bans.
If you buy a resold ticket in Maine, the reseller must refund you on request when the event is canceled; your ticket is rejected or canceled; you do not get it in time; or the seller made a major false claim. If you show up with a counterfeit, duplicate, or invalid ticket, the venue must give you the Maine Attorney General’s contact info. For refunds, the law treats a ticket as a license, which clarifies how disputes are handled.
Sellers must show the total ticket price anytime they advertise or display a price. The total must include all required fees and be shown more clearly than other price details, with a fee breakdown available. Sellers cannot hide or misstate mandatory fees; they must explain the fee’s purpose and amount before you agree to buy. Marketplaces may charge at most 10% of the ticket’s total price as a service fee. Shipping and government charges may be left out when figuring the total price for the cap.
The Maine Attorney General enforces these ticket rules. Any violation is an unfair trade practice, which allows the state to act and seek remedies. This strengthens protection and accountability for buyers.
Ticket issuers can still set maximum purchase limits and enforce their terms and conditions. The law also clarifies who is an original ticket issuer and who is a ticket reseller, and notes some nonprofits and venue sellers are excluded.
