Children can request abuse protection orders

A minor child can ask a court for a protection from abuse order. A parent or guardian can also ask for the child. A Department of Health and Human Services representative can file too. Covered harms include abuse, stalking, sex trafficking, sexual exploitation, unauthorized sharing of private images, certain phone or online harassment, crimes in Title 17-A, chapter 11, and conduct creating a civil claim under Title 14 §8305. The abuser does not need to be a family member or dating partner for these conduct-based cases.
