Credit-building loans don’t count toward $500 limits
In the 6 months before parole or discharge, the $500 transfer limit does not count money sent for dependent support or any credit‑building loan. On the parole or discharge date, credit‑building loan amounts do not count toward the $500 personal‑asset limit. This makes it less likely you are treated as over the limit because of a credit‑building loan.
Credit-building loans for people in prison
The law lets the corrections commissioner approve credit‑building loans from a bank or credit union. The loan money goes into your savings account at that bank. It must be fully secured with money you move from your DOC client account after required collections, and you repay it from that money. Loan funds are not subject to the 25% take for restitution, court fines, property damage, medical costs, or disciplinary sanctions.
