Local job and license applicants face checks

Minnesota counties and cities can run criminal background checks for certain job and license applicants. Covered jobs involve access to homes or business property; covered licenses are for cabarets or massage businesses. Checks must include Minnesota and national records. Applicants must provide signed consent, a full set of usable fingerprints, and required fees. The county or city sends these to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The bureau runs the state check, may exchange fingerprints with the FBI, and returns state and federal results. The county or city must use those results to decide whether the applicant is disqualified. Failure to cooperate is reasonable cause to deny the application.
