Typhoon recovery funding for Saipan and neighbors
The law provides $500,000 for Typhoon Sinlaku recovery from Third Senatorial District revenues collected under Public Law 20-59. Saipan’s Mayor’s Office receives $100,000, and the Northern Islands Mayor’s Office receives $50,000. Each mayor or designee controls their office’s spending, including limited-term hiring as needed. The Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation receives $350,000 for recovery, but cannot use it for new hiring. That money can support food distribution across the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, prioritizing the Third Senatorial District. All funds must stay dedicated to this recovery purpose and have no fiscal-year limit. The appropriations apply despite conflicting laws, rules, or regulations.
