Beginning July 1, 2025, Mississippi's Office of Workforce Development directs the Workforce Enhancement Training Fund and approves training without Community College Board consultation. Community and junior colleges are the main training facilitators. Existing Mississippi businesses get first priority, and employers can request training to improve current or newly hired workers' productivity. Training administration fees cannot exceed 5% of the fund. The law also removes the executive director's right to complete and exclusive control of office operations. Training contributions now go to the workforce office's Treasury account instead of the Community College Board's account. The employment security department holds contributions for 30 days, then transfers them within 15 days. Transfers occur at least monthly. The workforce office pays collection costs for training, workforce office, and Mississippi Works contributions, split proportionally under a federally approved plan. Payments cover periods ending in June and December and are due within 60 days after billing.
