Beginning July 1, 2024, Mississippi’s Department of Finance and Administration receives repayments on existing school facilities loans. The loan program ended that day, but districts still owe their repayments. The Education Department supplies loan terms and balances, and repayments go into the Education Enhancement Fund. The State Treasurer and State Fiscal Officer also transfer all remaining revolving loan fund money into that fund. If districts fall behind, the Education Department must send the amount owed to Finance and withhold it from future state formula payments. The loan collection and withholding rules expire July 1, 2034.
