Beginning July 1, 2025, Mississippi retailers can sell fireworks only May 23–July 12 and December 5–January 9 each year. Buyers must be at least 12 years old. Fireworks cannot be set off within 600 feet of a church, hospital, or school. They also cannot be set off within 75 feet of fireworks storage or sales locations. Setting off fireworks within, into, or from a motor vehicle is prohibited.
Beginning July 1, 2025, Mississippi fireworks-law violations are misdemeanors instead of felonies. Maximum fines are $1,000 for a first offense, $2,500 for a second, and $5,000 for later offenses. Courts can impose a fine, up to one year in county jail, or both. Violators, including businesses, also face civil claims for injuries, deaths, and property damage caused by illegal fireworks they sell. This liability reaches dealers, distributors, and manufacturers outside Mississippi. Out-of-state dealers selling in Mississippi can receive lawsuit papers through the Secretary of State.
