Effective upon passage, the law lets Calhoun County’s Board of Supervisors add conviction fees by adopting a resolution. The fees apply to convictions in the county’s Justice Court, County Court, and Circuit Court. The cap is $25 per conviction, or $50 for driving under the influence of alcohol or other impairing substances. These fees are added to existing assessments and court costs. The county must use the money for repairs and renovations to county courthouses and pretrial detention facilities. The authority to impose these fees ends July 1, 2029.
