Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Homeowner discounts for safety upgrades

The law lets insurers give discounts or other benefits to the named homeowner for steps that lower fire, wind, or hail risk. Examples include fire‑resistant materials, a 5‑foot nonflammable border, defensible space, alarms, and wind‑ or hail‑resistant roofing. Insurers must put any discount in writing to you. These benefits are not illegal rebates under state law. Insurers choose which measures to reward and how much.

Mid‑policy and filed‑rate discounts for homeowners

The law allows insurers to lower your premium in the middle of a policy when you take qualifying prevention steps. Rates filed with the state may also include these homeowner prevention discounts. You may see savings sooner, but insurers are not required to offer them.
