Higher base funding for Montana schools

The law raises base funding for Montana schools starting with school years that begin July 1, 2025. High schools get $364,401 in FY2026 and $375,333 after; add $18,221 per 80 ANB over 800 in FY2026 and $18,768 after. K–6 and elementary get $60,732 in FY2026 and $62,554 after (for 250 ANB or fewer); add $3,037 per 25 ANB over 250 in FY2026 and $3,128 after. Grades 7–8 get $121,466 in FY2026 and $125,110 after; add $6,073 per 45 ANB over 450 in FY2026 and $6,255 after. The first‑ANB maximum rates also rise to $8,317 (high school) and $6,496 (elementary) in FY2026, then $8,567 and $6,691; phase‑down rules remain.

More funds for teachers and special education

Starting with school years that begin July 1, 2025, several payments rise. The quality educator payment is $3,783 per eligible FTE in FY2026 and $3,896 after. The data‑for‑achievement rate is $24.29 per ANB in FY2026 and $25.02 after. The statewide special education allocation equals the greater of statewide ANB times $311.63 in FY2026 ($320.98 after) or last year’s total allocation.

Changes start July 1, 2025

The act takes effect July 1, 2025. It applies to school fiscal years that begin on or after July 1, 2025.

More support for American Indian education

The law boosts targeted support for American Indian education starting with school years that begin July 1, 2025. Districts receive $249 per enrolled American Indian student in FY2026 and $256 each year after. The Indian Education for All payment is $25.37 per ANB in FY2026 and $26.13 after, with at least $100 per district.
