Beginning January 1, 2026, the Department of Revenue certifies all alcohol server and sales training. A program is certified only if it covers how alcohol affects the body, penalties under state law, ID checks, record‑keeping for liability, and handling intoxicated or difficult people. It must include a final test and give a completion certificate to those who pass. There are two tracks: on‑premises service and off‑premises sales. Off‑premises training must take no more than half the time of on‑premises training. The department cannot offer its own training, so employers and workers must use certified private programs.
