Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 2 costs, 1 mixed.

Higher county document recording fees

Beginning October 1, 2025, you pay more to record documents with the county. For standard or photo-recorded filings, the fee is $20 for the first page or part of a page and $10 for each extra page or part. Nonstandard documents cost the same plus a $10 surcharge. Some documents may have different fees under other statutes.

Recording fees rise with inflation

Beginning July 1, 2027, the Department of Revenue sets the standard recording fee by rule every two years to match inflation. It uses the Consumer Price Index and rounds the fee down to the nearest dollar. The department also adjusts the per-page amounts sent to the preservation, county land, and state geospatial accounts, rounding down to the nearest 25 cents.

Where your recording fees go

The law creates a county records preservation fund. From each recording fee, $2 goes to this fund. Another $0.75 goes to the county land information account, and $2.25 goes to the state geospatial account; the rest is deposited as county law provides. Fees from nonstandard documents are deposited in the preservation fund. A county may move extra preservation-fund money to its general fund. These rules apply to documents recorded on or after October 1, 2025.
